First Post

Welcome to Laura's Life in Sweden!  Everyone keeps telling me to start a blog... so finally after two months of pressure... here it is.  I have no clue what this blog will be about or how often I will update it... but I will try my best to make it interesting.

I guess I should start with a little back story.  I was born and raised in a suburb of Chicago.  I have always loved Chicago and had never planned on living anywhere else.  I graduated college in December and was working as a waitress to save up money to get an apartment downtown.  I figured once I moved downtown I would get a "grown up" job in the music business, make a lot of money, fall in love and live happily ever after in the best city on earth.  One weekend in March all of that changed.  I decided to take a trip to my second favorite place,  Western Illinois University (the college I graduated from),to visit my best friend, (of 22 years), Amanda.  We had a blast, like always!  On friday night, Amanda and her roommates decided to have some people over before we went out.  In walks a foreigner.... I asked him where he was from... he said "it's complicated"... I was annoyed yet intrigued.  I found out he was originally from Poland but lived in Sweden and was studying as an exchange student at WIU.  As you can probably guess we fell in love, (awwww... I seriously gagged while typing that... I have never been the "lovey" type), and that is how I wound up living in Sweden.  He had to go back to Sweden to finish up his master's degree, and I followed.  Most people were shocked, as was I, that I could just pack up and go, but it was not a difficult decision for me at all. So on July 26th, 2010 I said goodbye to my family and flew to Sweden.  We spent the first two weeks visiting his family in Vienna, Austria.  It was beautiful and a lot of fun, but I was anxious to see Sweden.  When we got back to Sweden we stayed with his Mom in Västervik until his school started.  In the beginning of September we moved into our apartment in Linköping.  So that is where I am now, sitting on my couch typing this blog when I should be going to the grocery store.

So much has happened in the last two and a half months... I will probably have to post a lot of blogs this week to catch you all up!
